NC Mountains Pre-Conference Artist
Marjorie Dial is a studio artist whose practice includes sculpture, print-making, and writing. Dial grew up in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2011, she took a community art class and everything changed––“When I first touched clay at the age of 40, I felt like I woke up from life and started dreaming.” She received her MFA in Craft from the Oregon College of Art and Craft and calls Portland, OR home. In 2017, Dial purchased a 30-acre farm in WNC with a vision for a residency project that would serve artists, writers and art professionals with a focus on ceramics. The past two years, she has been developing the property: restoring thefarmhouse, building a bunkhouse, clearing the land of debris, and setting up studios. Called Township10, this new residency blends a trifecta of Dial’s passions: for the South, for deep art practice, and for artists who teach, mentor, lead, and disrupt.
